Comfort Inn & Suites Blazing Stump, Wodonga was selected as a finalist for the award of best 4 ½ STAR Motel – Luxury Accommodation at the Hotel Motel & Accommodation Association’s 2010 National Accommodation Industry Awards for Excellence which took place at RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast on Friday 24th September.

The glittering function was attended by over 200 leaders and representatives from the tourism and accommodation industries in addition to the newly appointed Shadow Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Federal Member for Paterson, the Hon. Bob Baldwin MP. McLeod’s Daughters and Home and Away actress, Sophie Cleary, performed the role of MC at the event with the assistance of former Sydney Swans player Jared Crouch.

“The HMAA National Accommodation Industry Awards for Excellence are all about achieving and maintaining the highest standards in the accommodation industry”, said Lorraine Duffy, HMAA’s Chief Executive. “HMAA understands and rewards the vital contribution of accommodation operators in creating, inspiring and promoting tourism, through providing the highest standards of service to their guests”.

HMAA logoThe Hotel Motel & Accommodation Association (HMAA) is the representative body for the Australian accommodation industry and members include hotels, resorts, motels, motor inns, holiday apartments, bed & breakfasts, guesthouses, caravan parks, backpackers, time shares, chains and independent operators in metropolitan and regional Australia, comprising some 60,000 guest rooms across the country.

“Reaching the finals of this prestigious competition is a great credit to us, our hardworking staff, fantastic owners and the accommodation industry of Wodonga”, said Darran and Cellina Little, Property Managers at Comfort Inn & Suites Blazing Stump.

“Gaining finalist position in the National HMAA Awards tops off a great year after also winning Comfort Franchisee of the Year in 2009 with Choice Hotels Australasia, reaching Finalist position in the 2010 Comfort Hotel of the Year with Choice International and receiving Finalist position in the 2009 Victorian Tourism Awards”

“After a $750,000 upgrade of 56 studio and two bedroom suites, we were able to move from an attractive 4 STAR rated motel to a fantastic 4 ½ STAR rated motel, apartment and conference complex.  We have been so fortunate to have local owners who understand the needs of our guests and our hardworking team and then allow us to grow and upgrade this wonderful motel complex” said Darran and Cellina Little, Property Managers at Comfort Inn & Suites Blazing Stump.

“I’d like to congratulate and thank all finalists for their efforts in pursuing excellence in accommodation standards, it is extremely important that we continue to do this as an industry. In some cases, the margin between winning properties and other finalists was very narrow. I hope this will act as an incentive for operators to continue to strive towards self improvement,” concluded Lorraine Duffy.
